Five Tips For Dressing Sunglasses Down This Summer

Sunglasses, remember them? You may have forgotten what these contraptions are, given we’ve all been indoors a fair bit of late. And the weather hasn’t been brilliant recently where the MR PORTER editorial team call home. Anyway – they go on your face and ears and protect your eyes from the sun’s rays (and, more importantly, make you look 63 per cent cooler than you actually are). To jog your memory further, we thought we would style some of our favourite shades with new summer clothing.

Now, we could easily assemble such a feature from the comfort of a home office (read: laptop on a stack of books), but we thought we’d do our duty in a more hands-on fashion. So, rather inexplicably, we headed to Biarritz with photographer Mr Ivan Terestchenko, film director Mr Martial Schmeltz and a Porsche to do a thorough investigation. Below are five lessons about sunglasses and style that we learnt in the field. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it…

    01. How to style
    round-framed
    sunglasses

You may wonder why Mr Schmeltz looks so deep in thought in the image above. While we can’t pinpoint exactly what he’s mulling over, we can be sure it is not his outfit. Here
is a reminder that round-frame sunglasses tend to suit square or heart-shaped face shapes and, when they’re made like this pair by Fendi, they instantly give your appearance a classic and relaxed feel. Hence the timeless, striped Breton-esque linen shirt we’ve paired them with. This gives our friend’s outfit here a little nod to French style (not to mention his surrounds).
